698Fashions designed by Edith Head for the 1969 Universal Pictures/Bob Fosse musical comedy-drama Sweet Charity as featured in a Monsanto promotional film entitled California Fashion Predictions for Holiday Cruise '68. The fashion show was shot on the Sweet Charity set with the glamorous '60s fashions created by Edith for the movie's nightclub scene featuring the dances The Aloof, The Heavyweight, and The Big Finish opening and closing the Monsanto promo reel. Head was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her work on Sweet Charity, her 31st of 35 nominations during her long career (winning eight Oscars in the process, she remains the recipient of the most Academy Awards in Oscars history). The gowns and models shown above, stand-outs in the short film, both opened and closed the cruise-wear fashion show, with the middle portion featuring day dresses and pantsuits in a parade of polyester, the fabric manufactured by Monsanto Textiles.
