Juan Diego Botto (Los europeos, Lo que esconden tus ojos) acaba de comenzar el rodaje de su ópera prima, ‘En los márgenes’, un thriller que tiene como protagonistas a Penélope Cruz (Madres paralelas, Competencia oficial), Luis Tosar (Adú, Maixabel), Aixa Villagrán (Loco por ella, Donde caben dos), Adelfa Calvo (La isla mínima, Madres paralelas,) Nur Levi (Hablar, El sustituto) y Christian Checa.
Escrita por el propio Juan Diego Botto y Olga Rodríguez, este thriller que ha comenzado a rodarse, aborda 24 horas cruciales en las vidas de tres personajes que tratan de mantenerse a flote y sobrevivir a ese periodo de tiempo que puede cambiar para siempre el curso de sus vidas. Un thriller contrarreloj sobre las relaciones personales y el afecto como motor para seguir adelante. La historia sucede en ese día decisivo y los protagonistas tienen que enfrentar un gran reto que vence al cabo de esas 24 horas. El espectador va accediendo a la información poco a poco y, como marca el género, le lleva un tiempo descodificar la trama. La cuenta atrás para que estalle la “bomba” metafórica que marcará la vida de estos personajes determina el ritmo de la película.
El rodaje transcurrirá a lo largo de 6 semanas por diversas localizaciones de Madrid y Penélope, además de la protagonista, ejerce como productora junto a Álvaro Longoria. La película llegará a los cines de la mano de Vértice Cine, para después estar disponible en Prime Video.

Penélope Cruz will be honored at the Museum of Modern Art’s 2021 Film Benefit.
The event, presented by Chanel, will return as an in-person gala on Dec. 14 at the New York City museum.
“Penélope Cruz has mesmerized cinema audiences since 1992 as an artist who is as compelling in action-adventures as she is in auteur-driven pictures,” Rajendra Roy, the Celeste Bartos Chief Curator of Film at MoMA, said in a statement Tuesday. “Perhaps most beloved for her collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar, her smashing performance in his film ‘Parallel Mothers’ cements her status as an artist of global stature. The first Spanish actress to be nominated for and win an Academy Award, Penélope Cruz is truly in a category all her own.”
Programing for the 14th annual Film Benefit will include screenings of Cruz movies, including “Everybody Knows,” “Volver,” and “Blow,” from Nov. 19-30.
Cruz’s newest collaboration with Almodóvar, “Parallel Mothers,” will be released on Dec. 24. The movie received a nine-minute standing ovation at its opening-night world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The cast also includes Milena Smit and features Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Israel Elejalde, Julieta Serrano and Rossy de Palma.
The film will be screened on Dec. 15 at MoMA as part of its annual The Contenders series.
Previous MoMA Film Benefit honorees include George Clooney, Laura Dern, Martin Scorsese, Julianne Moore, Tom Hanks, Cate Blanchett, Alfonso Cuarón, Tilda Swinton, Quentin Tarantino, Almodóvar, Kathryn Bigelow, Tim Burton and Baz Luhrmann.
Chanel has been a sponsor of the festivities since 2011.

Penélope Cruz Honored By Palm Springs Film Awards as International Star
The Palm Springs International Film Awards announced that Penélope Cruz is the recipient of the International Star Award, Actress for her performance in Pedro Almodovar’s “Parallel Mothers.” The Film Awards will take place in-person on Jan. 6 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The festival runs through Jan. 17.
Past recipients of the International Star Award, Actress include Nicole Kidman, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan and Charlize Theron. Last year’s recipient Carey Mulligan went on to receive an Academy Award Best Actress nomination. Cruz joins previously announced honoree Kristen Stewart, who is being awarded the Spotlight Award, Actress.
“Penélope Cruz has collaborated with Pedro Almovódar on so many wonderful films, from ‘Broken Embraces’ to ‘Volver,’ and their partnership truly shines with her brilliant performance in ‘Parallel Mothers,’ which has already earned international festival honors,” said festival chairman Harold Matzner. “She is an actress with immense depth and humanity, giving the world a tremendous body of work for three decades. For her poignant work in ‘Parellel Mothers,’ it is our honor to present the International Star Award, Actress to Penélope Cruz.”
In ‘Parallel Mothers,’ Cruz plays Janis, one of the two women who share a hospital room where they are going to give birth, both single and pregnant by accident. She stars alongside Milena Smit, who plays the adolescent of the two, one who is scared and repentant. As they become closer and Janis encourages Milena, their bond becomes complicated, changing their lives in a decisive way. The film also stars Israel Elejalde, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Rossy de Palma and Julieta Serrano.
